Waupun's comeback falls short in 7th inning of D2 State Title game

GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (WBAY) - Third time was the charm for West Salem. The past three years West Salem has made the State tournament each year finally taking home some hardware Thursday in the WIAA Division 2 State baseball title game in an 8-6 win against Waupun.

Waupun rallied in the fifth inning scoring three runs to cut the Panthers lead to 8-5. Then in the seventh inning, Warriors senior Drew Behling RBI double scored a run to make it an 8-6 deficit.

With two outs, Waupun freshman Baron Buchholz flied out to left field ending the hopes of a comeback.

Seven of West Salem's eight runs were unearned. Behling finished 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs.

This was Waupun's seventh state appearance.
