Timber Rattlers set for Opening Day 2017

APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) Opening Day excitement is still in the air at least for the baby Brewers.

The Timber Rattlers open up their season on Thursday at Quad Cities, but the anticipation they're feeling right now isn't just for the first game of the year

“It’s awesome. I mean, we've kind of been grinding all through spring training just to get to this point,” said home opener starter, Thomas Jankins.

There's plenty of excitement in the Timber Rattlers clubhouse including from the 11 returning players from last year.

Outfielder, Monte Harrison, is eager for a healthy season after injuries derailed the first two years of his pro ball career.

“I was a guy that was known for injuries and stuff in high school and stuff like that, but you know you can't really take care of bones except drink milk and stuff like that and my mom harps on that so I’m going to start drinking a little more, you know,” said Monte Harrison.

Opening Day starter, Zack Brown is feeling the jitters of a new opportunity.

“It means a lot it just shows that they have a lot of confidence in me that I can go out there and give us a good chance to win in the first game of the season,” said Brown.

The only thing more exciting than opening day for these players is the current rebuild process within the Brewers organization as a whole that should allow players quicker movement through the minor leagues. MLB Pipeline ranks the Brewers farm system as top five in the league so there’s lots of expectations being placed on these guys even at the single A level.

“We got to develop in the Brewers organization, and it's an exciting time to be in player development with the Milwaukee Brewers, and hopefully this is another taste of what we're going to get here down the road in Milwaukee,” said Timber Rattlers Manager, Matt Erickson.

The sooner the players develop, the sooner they have a shot to play in Milwaukee.
