HOWARD, Wis. (WBAY) -- ‘Tis the night before Christmas, and all through Green Bay, people were doing last minute shopping, ahead of the big day.
“It's nice to have a place to go and find some stuff, because not a lot of people have options before that, to go and buy something before Christmas Eve, because they're just as busy as I am,” says Nate Martin of Pulaski.
At Meijer in Howard, supervisors say the big items are last minute stocking stuffers, electronics, or food for Christmas dinner.
“[Shoppers are] looking for anything from electronics, those last minute TVs, iPads, iPods. The other thing they might still be looking for is food,” says Polly Emelander, Store Director, Meijer.
That, and maybe some adult beverages too.
“[We’re] trying to find the right beer to bring to Christmas,” says Emilie Krueger, Green Bay. “The dinner happens, the lunch happens, then we go to church. Then we come back and we play drinking games together, usually.”
“You've got to get through the holidays somehow,” jokes Max Wilkinson, Green Bay.
For Brooke Belter of Seymour, celebrations are double on Monday, as her birthday falls on Christmas Day.
“I like it in a way, because it's different,” she says. “And it just makes it more special to me. And I get to see all my family on my birthday, because they have to come, because it's Christmas.”
This Christmas Eve, Belter is picking up a winter-themed birthday cake from Meijer, to help celebrate her big day.
Meijer supervisors tell Action 2 News the store has seen a busy December, but gotten a recent wave of customers over the past weekend.
Meijer will close at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve, and will be closed all of Christmas Day. After that, the store will open again at 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
