WASHINGTON (WBAY) - Congressman Mike Gallagher (R-Green Bay) says he's fighting for full funding for three new littoral combat ships (LCS). That could bring more work to Marinette Marine.

The National Defense Authorization Act contains funding to complete three ships for the US Navy.
The bill was on the agenda in the House Tuesday.
Gallagher says Congress should cancel all of its breaks until a long-term military funding plan is finalized.
"Which is what we need to keep that workforce healthy, and also more importantly just to give the Navy what it said numerous times that it needs," said Gallagher. "And the oceans haven't gotten any smaller, and we need strong ships out there with sailors out there diffusing problems before they devolve into major crises. So, we play a key role in that right in northeast Wisconsin."
While Marinette Marine has a track record for building Navy ships, including the LCS, the Navy would have the final say on which company would get to build them.
