Powerball fever hits Fond du Lac's Miracle Mile

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WBAY) - Powerball fever has hit Wisconsin's lucky Miracle Mile in Fond du Lac.

The jackpot for Wednesday's drawing has climbed to $700 million, the second largest in U.S. history.

The Miracle Mile has been called the "luckiest stretch of land in the world."

Here are some of the mile's big Powerball winners:

March 24, 2010: $1 million
Aug. 7, 2006: $208.6 million
July 7, 1993: $111 million

On Tuesday, the Korneli's sold $14,000 in tickets alone. They've had all registers open in anticipation of the ticket rush.

People travel from near and far to purchase a ticket from this legendary lotto destination.

"It just seems lucky. Once in a while there's a winner," said Jerry Eggers of Fond du Lac. "We buy tickets off and on, but when the jackpot is big, then we really buy tickets."

The odds of winning the jackpot--matching five of five numbers and the Powerball--are one in 292,201,338 million.

The drawing happens at 9:59 p.m. Wednesday. Watch Action 2 News for the winning numbers.
