OAK CREEK, Wis. (WBAY) -- Wisconsin’s first IKEA will open this spring.
A ribbon cutting is set for 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday May 16, in Oak Creek, near Milwaukee.
“We are thrilled by the construction progress to date, and believe we can complete the remaining milestones and interior build-up by May. Besides furnishing our store, we are also focused on recruiting and training all of our coworkers joining the IKEA family,” noted Samantha Gravina, store manager. “We look forward to introducing customers here in Wisconsin to the IKEA experience and a whole new way of shopping.”
The 293,000 square-foot facility boasts "10,000 exclusively designed items"; three model home interiors; and 50 inspirational room settings. The Oak Creek store will also have a restaurant offering its famous Swedish meatballs and lingonberries.
IKEA is hiring 300 people for the Oak Creek store.
This marks the 48th IKEA in the United States.
Before this, the closest IKEA locations were Bolingbrook or Schaumburg, Illinois, or Bloomington, Minnesota.
