Officials identify object found on NWTC campus

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Investigators have identified a suspicious object found on the campus of Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay.

The college said Thursday that the object is a phone wire splice bottle. It's a weather proof splicer used by utility technicians.

“We are pleased that the event on Tuesday was resolved without incident,” said NWTC President Dr. Jeff Rafn. “We are also pleased to know everyone on campus took the temporary precautions seriously and it was a good test of the College’s emergency operations.”

The object was found Sept. 12 by a maintenance worker. The object was initially determined to be suspicious because it had exposed wires and was next to an electrical box.

The Brown-Outagamie County Bomb Squad responded to the scene and took the object in for x-rays.

The campus evacuated a student housing building and transportation center as a precaution.
