APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) - Get read for Mile 5.
The Mile of Music Festival has announced its first 50 artists for the annual "handcrafted artisan festival" in downtown Appleton.
Mile 5 is slated for Aug. 3 - 6, 2017.
The first 50 artists are a mix of 30 newcomers and 20 favorites from the first four years of the festival, co-founded by Dave Willems and Grammy-nominated musician Cory Chisel.
In total, Mile 5 will showcase 225 singer-songwriters, duos and bands. Organizers are hoping to offer 1,000 live music sets, topping 2016's 900.
About 70 venues will host Mile of Music events.
The festival no longer has Jones Park, which is part of the Fox Cities Exhibition Center project. To make up for that loss, Mile organizers are working on securing outdoor venues in Appleton and on the Lawrence University campus.
The Fox Communities Stage at the Grand Ballroom of the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel will serve as a rain or shine venue for some "intense music," according to the festival.
There will also be more performances at Lawrence Memorial Chapel and Houdini Plaza.
Mile of Music needs 350-400 volunteers to staff events. Shifts will be announced on www.mileofmusic.com
Cory Chisel's Refuge Foundation for the Arts will also be part of Mile 5. Chisel has partnered with Oshkosh Corporation for the "Feed the Body, Feed the Soul" program to raise money for the charity.
