Lawmakers propose extra spearing tags to benefit Sturgeon for Tomorrow

Sturgeon Spearing preps

MADISON, Wis. (WBAY) - A new bill in Madison looks to support the efforts of Sturgeon for Tomorrow.

The bill would reserve five certificates for sturgeon spearing licenses each year so Sturgeon for Tomorrow could raffle them off in a fundraiser.

Sturgeon for Tomorrow works closely with the DNR on habitat, conservation, education and protection of the lake sturgeon population on the Lake Winnebago system and throughout the state.

The bill is authored by state represenatives Gordon Hintz (D-Oshkosh) and David Murphy (R-Greenville), who say since there have been leftover tags in the past, the bill is unlikely to reduce the number of tags available for purchase.
