Laconia falls in D3 State Championship 10-0 to Aquinas

GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (WBAY) - The Laconia baseball team's season ended with a State runner-up trophy Thursday in the WIAA Division 3 State Championship at Fox Cities Stadium. La Crosse Aquinas shut out the Spartans 10-0 to win the school's second state baseball title.

This was Laconia's first trip to State and for a team which started the postseason with a 7-11 record, winning six straight games and earning a silver plaque came as a surprise to many. Prior to the Spartans postseason run they had lost four straight games.

La Crosse Aquinas Blugolds freshman pitcher Jess Ondell threw a complete game shut out, allowing 3 hits. Blugolds junior Nick Schlicht went 3 for 3 with a solo home run in the second and 3 RBIs.

Laconia finished Thursday's contest with four errors. The Spartans return 11 underclassmen next season.
