Kimberly advances to D1 State Semifinals in 11-2 win

GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (WBAY) - The Kimberly baseball team defeated Waunakee 11-2 in the WIAA Division 1 Quarterfinals Tuesday evening at Fox Cities Stadium.

The Papermakers scored first in the second inning on a RBI single by senior Ben Buckner and then a RBI sacrifice fly by senior Ryan Carney. Waunakee scored one run in the bottom of the second when Warriors junior Dylan Haack singled to center field brining in senior Jesse Dondlinger.

Kimberly then score two runs in the third and fifth and five in the sixth. Papermakers were led by sophomore catcher Beau Schumacher who went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs, senior first baseman/third basemen Drew Johnson who went 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs and sophomore Connor Chitko went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Buckner, Carney and sophomore John Nett also added an RBI each.

Kimberly (21-8) advances to face Eau Claire North (23-2) Tuesday night after the Huskies defeated previously undefeated Green Bay Preble 9-0 earlier in the day.
