Guesses and rumors lead to school shooting fears in Sheboygan

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WBAY) - Sheboygan Police are reassuring parents that there was never a threat of a shooting at Sheboygan South High School on Wednesday.

Rumors were spreading on social media Tuesday, and police began investigating.

School administrators say on Tuesday they prevented a student from leaving the school.

That incident "apparently caused other students to speculate on social media," police said. "This led to unverified social media posts about a possible threat tomorrow.... This then caused more concern within the community."

School officials are reaching out to parents to dispel the rumor.
