APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) -- A Fox Valley Tech student won some big money to help him pay for his college education.
Trent Waring won $100,000 through the Dr. Pepper Tuition Giveaway during the Pac-12 Championship football game in California on Friday.
"I was pretty excited and a bit emotional that I won and my school is going to be taken care of. I don't have to deal with school loans, deal with student debt," said Waring.
Waring entered the competition online telling Dr. Pepper, through a video, about his dream to save lives as a firefighter.
Waring is going to school to be a fire protection technician and paramedic.
Waring, along with three other finalists, raced against each other by throwing as many footballs from the 5-yard line in 30 seconds, into an over-sized Dr. Pepper can replica during halftime of the game.
The runner-up received $20,000 and the remaining two finalist received $2,500 towards their college education.
