Sheriff's Office: Husband and wife dead after 'suspicious' fire

OCONTO COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) - A husband and wife were found dead after a house fire in Oconto County, according to the Sheriff's Office.

On Wednesday, the agency identified the victims as Dennis Fry, 47, and Karen Fry, 48.

The cause of death remains under investigation.

The fire happened at about 3:25 a.m. Tuesday on Beschta Lane in the Town of Lena.

Lena fire crews arrived to find the home covered in flames. The Oconto County Sheriff’s Office assisted in controlling traffic.

“The Lena Fire Department suppressed the fire and contained the fire to the building of origin,” says Chief Deputy Edward Janke of the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office. “During their suppression operations, they located a body outside of the structure, and and then later on when their suppression operations were complete, they found a body in a bedroom in the structure.”

Officials confirm no one else was in the home at the time of the fire.

“Based on the fire chief's investigation, showing that the fire was indeed suspicious, the Sheriff's Office then took over the investigation,” Chief Deputy Janke says.

The Oconto County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Wisconsin Department of Justice, State Fire Marshall, Oconto County Fire Task Force and Oconto County Medical Examiner’s Office to continue the investigation.

Sheriff’s deputies tell Action 2 News they will likely have more information after the results of an autopsy.
