Motorcyclist treated for serious injuries after Appleton crash

APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) - A Seymour man is being treated for serious head injuries following a crash involving a motorcycle and car in Appleton.

The crash happened Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of North Ballard Road and the off ramp of northbound I-41.

Police say the crash remains under investigation, but preliminary reports indicate the motorcyclist drove through a red light and was hit by a vehicle traveling south on North Ballard Road.

The motorcyclist, a 51-year-old Seymour man, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious head injuries. Appleton Police say the man was not wearing a helmet.

The driver of the car, a 16-year-old girl from Appleton, was not hurt. Her passenger was not injured.

Traffic was detoured for more than three hours.

No citations have been issued. Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Officers have reviewed video from traffic cameras and they are still working to interview witnesses.

The crash happened at about 3:16 p.m. The roadway re-opened at 6:50 p.m.
