Community helps officers fill their squads with donations

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. (WBAY) -- Local law enforcement officers are filling their squad cars with food donations at area Pick 'n Save stores on Friday.

Fill the Squad

All the food collected at Friday's event will go to area shelters.

People shopping at Pick 'n Save can go in the store and buy a pre-packaged bag of groceries for $5 or $10 and bring it out to the officer's squad car. Pick 'n Save will fill the bags with groceries needed by shelters.

The Green Bay Police Department will be at Pick 'n Save at 1819 Main Street.

The Brown County Sheriff's Office and Ashwaubenon Public Safety will also be out at the Pick 'N Saves in Bellevue and Ashwaubenon.

"There's a lot of people who are too proud to ask for help and this way, we can go out there and solicit the community and say 'Hey, lets help our friends and neighbors,'" said Chief Eric Dunning of Ashwaubenon Public Safety.

Officers will be collecting donations at the Pick 'n Saves until 3 p.m. Friday.

The food will be taken to the food pantry at the New Community Shelter.

Last year officers collected around 1,000 bags of food and hope to surpass that by a couple hundred bags this year.
