CHARLOTTE, NC (WBAY) - The owner and founder of the Carolina Panthers is under investigation for claims of workplace misconduct.
The Panthers say they won't go into any details about the accusations against Jerry Richardson.
The NFL team issued a statement Friday evening saying the team's internal investigation was being handled by an international law firm and overseen by the team's limited owner, Erskin Bowles.
Team spokesman Steven Drummond said in the statement:
"The Carolina Panthers and Mr. Richardson take these allegations very seriously and are fully committed to a full investigation and taking appropriate steps to address and remediate any misconduct... The entire organization is fully committed to ensuring a safe, comfortable and diverse work environment where all individuals, regardless of sex, race, color, religion, gender, or sexual identity or orientation, are treated fairly and equally. We have work to do to achieve this goal, but we are going to meet it.”
Richardson has owned the Panthers since the NFL expansion awarded the franchise in 1993.
