Brewers knocked from first place as tough road trip wraps up

WASHINGTON (WBAY) - The Milwaukee Brewers find themselves out of first place for the first time in two months, but the team is looking forward to a weekend series at Miller Park when they'll battle the Chicago Cubs head-to-head for the NL Central's top spot.

Milwaukee is struggling through a brutal road trip that's seen two wins and seven losses through Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Washington.

The road trip wraps up Thursday with a day game against the Nationals. Michael Blazek makes his first Major League start on the mound for Milwaukee against five-time All Star and two-time Cy Young Award-winner Max Scherzer for Washington.

Milwaukee slipped from first place with an 8-5 loss Wednesday night in Washington. A seven-run eighth inning powered the Nationals to the win, highlighted by RBI doubles from Ryan Zimmerman and former Brewer Adam Lind.

The Chicago Cubs jumped past Milwaukee by half-a-game with an 8-3 win over their cross-town rival White Sox.

Cubs visit Milwaukee for a three game series starting Friday night.
