Boy raised $12,000 for new police K9

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - The Green Bay Police Department showed off a new K9 officer that's joining the department thanks to one young boy's help.

Ethan Engum meets K9 Echo

"I heard that the dog died, so I decided I could help and raise money to get a new dog," Ethan Engum said.

At the age of 7, Ethan thought of a GoFundMe page after hearing its K9 officer "Cops" died unexpectedly.

Thanks to Ethan's hard work, the department bought K9 "Echo."

Echo and his handler, Officer Tom Conley, recently returned from New Mexico, where they trained together for six weeks.

"We're learning as we go. He's young," Officer Conley said. "It's been a great learning experience so far and I look forward to the-- a lot of hard work ahead of me to keep him going forward with him."

Ethan had a chance to meet Echo. He tells us he thinks Echo is pretty cool.

Ethan was also recognized by the Green Bay City Council at a meeting in February.
