Wisconsin does it again. The Badgers reach the Sweet 16 for a 4th straight season by defeated #1 overall seed Villanova 65-62.
The Badgers overcame foul trouble to stars Bronson Koenig and Ethan Happ.
Senior Nigel Hayes hit the go-ahead bucket in the final minute and a block on the other end helped seal the win.
Hayes led the way with 19 points while Koenig chipped in 17.
Saturday marked the 4th time Wisconsin had beaten a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Each of the previous 3 times were in years that the Badgers went on to reach the Final Four (2000, 2014, 2015).
And all 4 off the #1 seeds beaten by Bucky Badger were Wildcats (Arizona 2000 & 2014, Kentucky 2015, Villanova 2017).
After sitting out for 11 minutes following his 4th foul, Koenig connected on two clutch three's to help decide the game.
"I felt terrible, to say the least, when I got my 4th foul," Koenig said. "I was just sitting on the bench, trying to be a coach from the bench to help our guys out. I knew that wasn't how my career was going to end. I just knew that when coach gave me the opportunity to get back in there I was going to make something happen."
