AAA: Thanksgiving travel at all time high since 2005

BROWN COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) - We are just one week away from Thanksgiving and AAA has released their predictions for a very busy Thanksgiving travel weekend.

This year is expected to see the most Thanksgiving travelers since 2005. More than one million people in Wisconsin are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home next week.

This is nearly three and a half percent from last year. What is interesting is gas prices in Wisconsin are likely to be at their highest since 2014.

Last year heading into Thanksgiving weekend, Wisconsin averaged $2.03 for a gallon of gas. Today, the average is $2.58, but AAA expects the price will still be lower than what drivers were paying earlier this month.

Travel will not only be up here in Wisconsin, but across the country as well. Nearly 51 million Americans are expected to travel next week, up just over three percent from last year.
