KIEL, Wis. (WBAY) -- The Kiel Fire Department put out multiple fires in the city on Friday.
The fire department says the first fire was at a house on the 1200 block of Dewey Street. It started around 12:35 p.m.
Authorities say flames were visible along the roof line of the home when they arrived.
Neighbors tried to put out the fire using a garden hoses and fire extinguishers.
Firefighters were able to contain the flames to the outside of the house.
The fire department says the fire started when decorative wood chips alongside the home ignited from a discarded cigarette.
The fire caused about $10,000 in damage.
The second fire happened on the 700 block of Center Street around 10:30 p.m.
When firefighters arrived there were flames in a bedroom on the second floor.
Two people were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation to Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center. They were released a few hours later.
The residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross and damage is estimated at $125,000.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Also on Friday, the fire department responded to a construction site on in the 900 block of Eight Street after a construction worker fell 30 feet.
The worker's condition is unknown at this time.
