These 43 Green Bay businesses failed alcohol compliance checks

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) -- After a six-year hiatus, Green Bay Police resumed checking businesses with liquor licenses this year to make sure they're complying with the law -- checking ID, making sure they're not selling to someone underage.

As part of our reporting last week, Action 2 News filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the list of businesses that were checked and their pass/fail rate.

There are 253 liquor licenses in the City of Green Bay.

Forty-three failed at least once, including bars, restaurants and convenience stores.

For their compliance checks, police divided the city into four districts.
According to their lists, the majority of businesses were checked at least twice -- once in April and May and again in October or November. Some were checked only once, while two businesses were checked three times.

Police Capt. Todd LePine says letters were sent to businesses two months in advance to tell them police were resuming compliance checks.

LePine told us last week, “I don't think a lot of those were malicious in nature at all... I think some of them were oversights, but unfortunately we have to enforce the law.”
