Sierra Gillespie started her career at WBAY in October 2015 as a producer for Action 2 News This Morning: Weekend Edition. It had always been her ambition to report on-air, and when a position became available within the station, she jumped on it.
Though not originally from the Green Bay area, Sierra’s Wisconsin roots run deep. She was born in Madison and graduated from Waunakee High School in 2011, where she won Most Valuable Journalist for her high school newspaper.
Sierra moved to Muncie, Indiana, after high school, where she studied at the David Letterman School of Journalism at Ball State University. She worked as an anchor and reporter for their award-winning student broadcast NewsLink Indiana before graduating with a double major in journalism and telecommunications in May 2015.
After graduation, Sierra couldn’t resist moving back to her home state – they don’t appreciate cheese curds enough in Indiana! She saw an opening at Action 2 News and eagerly applied to one of the best stations in the state of Wisconsin.
On her off-days, Sierra’s guilty pleasures include watching “Gilmore Girls” re-runs, petting her dog and spending time with friends. Sierra’s favorite stories to cover are community-based pieces that help convey what it’s like to live in our corner of Wisconsin. She’s excited and eager to finally start her career as an on-air reporter at Action 2 News.
