The Best Gift Ever!

Event Dates and Times

11/13/2017 - 12/12/2017
Manitowoc Public Library 707 Quay Street Manitowoc, WI 54220
Sometimes the smallest goodwill gesture can easily become the “Best Gift Ever!” The gift of reading is one such gift! Please join the Manitowoc Public Library and the Steven Strassburg Agency, Inc.—an American Family Insurance agency—to help us build a lifetime of reading enjoyment for children whose families might not be able to budget the purchase of a new book this holiday season. Between November 13th and December 11th, donations of new, unwrapped books may be dropped off at the Manitowoc Public Library (700 Quay Street) or the Strassburg Agency (3315 Calumet Avenue, Suite D). These books in turn will be distributed to children in need via the Salvation Army and other area shelters. The “Best Gift Ever!” is truly the gift that keeps on giving! From all concerned parties, we thank you in advance for your support and wish you the happiest of holidays!

Doctor Who Day @ Manitowoc Public Library

Event Dates and Times

12/9/2017 - Starts: 9:00 AM - Ends: 2:00 PM
Manitowoc Public Library 707 Quay Street Manitowoc, WI 54220
Allons-y!! To Manitowoc Public Library for Doctor Who Day on Saturday, December 9th that is!! A Tardis-load of activities and fun awaits prospective Time Lords at the library between 9 AM and 2 PM that day—Doctor Who Cubee Craft and Fez stations, a Scavenger Hunt for all the manifestations of The Doctor dispersed throughout the building, a Doctor Who-themed photo booth, a costume contest and parade (with Guest Judges Mayor Justin Nickels, “Breakfast Club” host, Craig Dillon, and Veterinarian Extraordinaire, Dr. Maura Mansfield) with a prize awarded for the best attire, a Time And Relative Dimension In Space in Third Dimensional cake form, “Whopardy!” (Doctor-centric “Jeopardy!”) and more!!! So much to see! Just in case you were considering bringing bananas to this party—because bananas are good!—there’s no need: we’ve got that covered. Please do join us on December 9th! And should you be concerned that any of the Doctor’s enemies might show up to ruin the fun, fear not—you’ll be in a library. Which means that you’ll be surrounded by books! And books, as you know well, are the best weapons in the world! A special thanks to Friends of the Manitowoc Library, Festival Foods, Kwik Trip, and Heidi Laux for their sponsorship and support! Admission is FREE!!!

But, Wait! There’s More!
MPL is fortunate to be partnering with Manitowoc’s Baymont Inn & Suites with a special offer for Doctor Who Day attendees who may be traveling from outside the area. Give Baymont Inn a call at 920-284-2097 to reserve a room for any night (or nights!) that weekend, mention that you’ll be attending Doctor Who Day and you’ll receive a special reduced rate! Come for Doctor Who Day, but stay for Evergleams on Eighth, Lights in Lincoln Park, and all the other holiday fun that Manitowoc has to offer! Make a weekend of it in Manitowoc!

Hold On! There’s Still More!
Inspired by the Fourth Doctor, Tom Baker—the longest-lived incarnation of The Doctor—MPL will be holding a Scarf Drive in association with Doctor Who Day. Attendees are encouraged to bring new or gently used scarves to donate at the event, which will in turn be distributed to local organizations that assist those in need. So, warm the cockles of your heart by knowing that you’re helping someone to more readily face a cold Wisconsin winter. Don’t be a Dalek—care about humanity!
