Lawrence University Opera Studies presents “Le Comte Ory” (“Count Ory,” sung in English)
Event Dates and Times
- Starts: 7:30 PM
Stansbury Theatre, Music-Drama Center, 420 E. College Ave., Appleton, WI 54911
Gioachino Rossini’s final comic opera, “Le Comte Ory,” is arguably his most sophisticated and seamless opera. Based on French vaudeville, the men of the village of Formoutiers have left to fight in the Crusades, leaving their women behind alone with Countess Adèle. With the arrival of Count Ory, a notorious gadabout who employs various disguises in efforts to seduce Adèle, the women are delighted to have someone to consult about their loneliness. Religious piety and taboo, along with a dose of gender-bending and cross-dressing, lead to situations worthy of its roots in burlesque and farce. Performed in English. Tickets: Adults $15, seniors $8, students $5. firstname.lastname@example.org. 920-832-6749
