MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Choppers and cheese may soon become official Wisconsin symbols. Bills to honor Harley-Davidson motorcycles and a bacteria used in the making of cheese have been introduced in the Legislature. Efforts to promote the cheese industry and Harley-Davidson's Milwaukee home base come at a time when the entire state economy is struggling.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A new report says nuclear power plants would take too long to build and are too expensive to make any impact on global warming. The report from environmental advocacy organization Wisconsin Environment says money that would go to new nuclear plants would be better spent on renewable sources.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - Federal officials say the despised Asian carp may have breached an electronic barrier designed to prevent it from invading the Great Lakes. If correct, that would mean the carp might reach Lake Michigan if they get through a navigational lock. From there, they could spread throughout the Great Lakes and out-compete native species for food.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - A Madison detective plans to nominate a Chicago college student for a departmental citizenship award after the woman turned over a duffel bag containing more than $10,000 in cash. Investigators discovered the bag belonged to a business owner who had left it in a cab the woman and her cousin later rode in.
